Men’s Health and Naturopathic Medicine

Although it is more common for women to seek out the services of a naturopathic doctor, I would estimate at least 1/3rdof my practice is men, the other 2/3rds being split between women and children.

Conditions and symptoms like stress, fatigue, insomnia, digestive disturbances, food intolerances, rashes, low immune function and almost every other condition do not discriminate based on gender. The main difference is typically how long someone will let a symptom or condition bother him or her until they seek help.

Common reasons I see men in my office are:

  • Fatigue
  • Stress
  • Insomnia
  • Skin rashes and skin health
  • Digestive disturbances
  • Food allergy/intolerance testing
  • Chelation therapy for cardiovascular health
  • Cancer support
  • Mood support – depression and anxiety
  • IV vitamin therapy
  • Prostate health
  • Sexual health
  • Prevention and being proactive in their health

Another common reason why men come in to my office is for hormone support. Women have been doing hormone balancing for years, and it is no secret that women are sensitive to their hormones, but men are now starting to become interested in how their hormones affect their health, mood, athletic performance, sexual health and overall well being. To test your hormones, either blood work or salivary testing can be done. For testosterone, blood work is easily done; however, if there is a stress component it is best to look at testosterone in conjunction with your adrenals to determine if the cause of low testosterone can be attributed to a stress response in the body. If stress is the cause, it is easily addressed by naturopathic medicine.

If you are interested in discussing more about what naturopathic medicine can do for your men’s health concerns please contact my office at 778-478-0048 or book online through my website www.drpratt.ca
